ABUSE & NEGLECT IN ASSISTED LIVING FACILITIES & NURSING HOMES

Neglect and abuse in assisted living and nursing home facilities is a serious issue that can lead to personal injury, pain, suffering, or even wrongful death. This poor treatment can manifest itself in many ways, ranging from things like not providing appropriate medical care or turning a blind eye to physical abuse, to not providing access to food and water or not regularly repositioning an immobile patient.

Warning signs of abuse and neglect include:

• Unexplained injuries, bruises, and/or broken bones
• Frequent falls
• Dehydration and malnutrition
• Depression
• Sudden and unexplained change in patient attitude and communicativeness
• Inadequate staffing in the nursing home or caregiving facility
