We are pleased to announce that Katherine Resavage, a 2019 Leon High School graduate, has become the nineteenth recipient of our firm’s annual freedom scholarship essay contest. Each year, our essay contest has grown more popular with students throughout Leon, Wakulla, Gadsden and Jefferson counties. In an effort to promote education and awareness of American liberties, we invite high school juniors and seniors to submit essays on “The Bill of Rights: What they mean to me as an American.” The winning contestant, chosen by a celebrity panel of judges, is awarded $2,500 to assist with their future educational expenses. To date, we have awarded $47,500 to our Freedom Scholarship winners!

Our esteemed judges this year included Leon County Circuit Court Judges, Ronald W. Flury, Angela C. Dempsey, and Martin Fitzpatrick. The judges selected Katherine Resavage as the winner of the 2019 Freedom Scholarship. Katherine, the daughter of Todd and Gina Resavage, is a remarkable and accomplished young woman. She graduated summa cum laude and was on the high honor roll every quarter of her high school career. She was in the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta (math), Spanish National Honor Society, and the National English Honor Society. Katherine was awarded numerous scholarships including Florida Academic Scholar, Childers/Everett Student Athlete Scholarship, and Best and Brightest Runner Up Scholarship. Katherine was also the Community Service Committee Chair and led all community service projects for Leon High School. She served as Student Body Treasurer, Junior Class Secretary, and Vice President of the Interact Service Club (affiliated with Rotary International). In addition to her academic excellence, and her many service related activities, Katherine was Captain of the Women’s Varsity Cross Country Team and Captain of the Women’s Varsity Track Team.
